The Unit was created to identify and address incidents that affect the quality of life of its citizenry. Through a combined effort of the police department and all members of the community, the Unit has created innovative programs that have a direct positive impact on public disorder crimes, identified criminal trends and address other issues of societal concern. The two-officer unit was formed for this specific role of Community Policing and Problem Solving. Supervised by Sgt. Harry Rocheville, he and Officer Dennis King work hand-in-hand with the citizens of our community, businesses, the courts, other government agencies and with the Department's several other divisions to identify and solve quality of life issues. The Officers bring a wide range of training and professional experience to the unit. Sgt. Rocheville is a 22 year veteran of the police department. His experience includes several years as a Detective within the Criminal investigation Division where he led numerous complicated cases including drug trafficking, fraud and sexual assault crimes. Officer Dennis King has been with the Department since 2000. As a member of the Department he currently serves on both the Dive Team and the Honor Guard. His training and experience comes from assignments as a patrol officer to include four years in the City's Point Neighborhood. Officer King has additional training in Defensive Tactics as a certified instructor for the Massachusetts Criminal Justice Training Council (MCJTC). He will graduate in May of 2008 from Salem State College with his Master's of Science in Criminal Justice. His special interests include graffiti recognition and crime mapping. Prior to becoming a member of the Salem Police Department Officer King worked as a Campus Police Officer at North Shore Community College and as a Correctional Officer at the Essex County House of Correction. Outside of work Officer King enjoys running and spending time with his wife and three children. |
